On June 16, 2026 , researchers at the The University of Sheffield investigated the transition from cardboard modeling to leather crafting. The Ethics committee approved the safety procedures earlier in March 2026 after a series of informal workshops held between 2024-2025 at the campus with the Maker {School} community.
During the workshops kids and their family designed and created unique artefacts using bovine leathers ( cow, buffalo, goat and sheep)
The tools, modules and leathers along with basic guidelines were provided by Leather for Kids.
Maker{Futures} are exploring how leather can be used as a "progression material" the next exciting step for makers who have already mastered working with cardboard.
The data collected with this activity will form part of an academic level research conducted by Saman J Qarni, Dr. Alison Buxton & Jennifer Rowsell
This forms part of Leather for Kids’ revolutionary approach by The Leather Dude which will help the Leather industry for it’s legitimacy in future amongst the next generation.
